The 5 best beaches in Barcelona

Barcelona is a city deeply connected to the Mediterranean Sea. For centuries, its history has been shaped by maritime trade and fishing, making it one of the most important ports along the Spanish coast.

In the last few decades, the city has transformed its coastline, especially since the redevelopment of the seafront area before the 1992 Olympic Games. Thanks to these improvements, Barcelona’s beaches are now clean, well-maintained, and perfect for enjoying the sun, swimming, and relaxing by the sea.

Today, the city offers a wide variety of beaches with different atmospheres and facilities, all easily accessible by public transport, bicycle, or even on foot from the city centre.

One of the most famous is Barceloneta Beach, which takes its name from the historic fishing district nearby. A walk through the narrow streets of Barceloneta is highly recommended, especially if you want to enjoy fresh seafood in one of the many traditional restaurants in the area.

At Hotel Arc La Rambla, we offer our guests an exclusive beach package so you can enjoy the Mediterranean in total comfort. Put on your swimsuit and discover our selection of the best beaches in Barcelona.

Beaches along the Seafront and Olympic Village

Bogatell Beach

Bogatell Beach is one of the most pleasant beaches in Barcelona, stretching for about 640 metres. It is known for its calm waters, clean sand, and relaxed atmosphere, making it a favourite among families and locals.

The beach offers all essential services, including showers, lifeguards, sunbed rentals, and beach bars. As a special highlight, free concerts are sometimes held here during the La Mercè festival in September, one of Barcelona’s biggest annual celebrations.

Mar Bella Beach

Mar Bella Beach is about 500 metres long and is particularly popular with younger visitors and sports lovers.

The beach features volleyball courts, sports areas, and playgrounds for children. It also has a designated nudist section, making it one of the few beaches in Barcelona where naturism is allowed. The waters are usually calm and the beach is fully equipped with services and facilities.

Llevant Beach

At 375 metres long, Llevant Beach is one of the newest and quietest beaches in the city.

It’s an excellent option if you prefer a more relaxed environment away from the busiest tourist areas. One of its most distinctive features is the designated dog-friendly area, where visitors can enjoy the beach with their pets. Like the other city beaches, it also offers showers, lifeguards, and accessibility services.

Sant Sebastià Beach

Sant Sebastià Beach is the oldest beach in Barcelona and one of the largest. It takes its name from the historic Church of Sant Sebastià, which once stood in the area in the 18th century.

Its proximity to the city centre and the Barceloneta neighbourhood makes it very popular with both locals and visitors. The beach is also known for its sporting activities and lively atmosphere. During the summer, the Barcelona City Council organizes open-air cinema screenings (“Cinema a la Fresca”), where visitors can enjoy films by the sea.

Forum Saltwater Pool

Located in Parc del Fòrum, this unique bathing area offers an alternative to traditional sandy beaches.

The Forum Saltwater Pool is a large, open saltwater swimming area without sand, making it a comfortable option for families or visitors who prefer an urban swimming environment. The area is accessible, safe, and equipped with services such as lifeguards and sunbathing areas.
