The Park Güell

We at Hotel Arc La Rambla are looking forward to your visit in Barcelona and, therefore, we want to keep helping you to discover this beautiful city.

The Park Güell is one of the must-see spots in Barcelona, and it is essential to visit it to discover the true modernism.

The park was built between 1900 and 1914, designed as an urbanization for a public of wealthy status. A commercial failure turned this possible project into the park that we know today.

An unusual park

The park is extremely unique, something quite special as one might expect from each Gaudí’s work. In the areas and the decoration, Gaudí uses the organic forms of nature, and an impressive ornamental work where the interventions in the landscape are complemented with the natural beauty. Among the leafy green balconies, terraces, staircases and highly iconic constructions of the park, but also representative of Barcelona.

When Count Güell died in 1918, his successors decided to sell the park to the Barcelona City Council. In 1926 it opened to the public and the tourist interest grew year after year.

Do not miss the staircase: a World Heritage Site

On the access staircase it is possible to clearly see the political and religious symbolism applied in the entire design. The Catalan countries are represented. But there are also mythological references in the very conception of the park inspired by the temple of Apollo of Delphi. One of the emblems of this staircase is the dragon or salamander covered with its particular colour, the point at which each visitor wants to take his photo.

The whole complex is classified as a World Heritage Site by Unesco as part of Antoni Gaudí’s collection of works. Ideal to visit in a sunset, the whole park is another jewel to include in your travel agenda.
