Consulates and Embassies in Barcelona

Consulados y Embajadas Barcelona

Losing your passport, needing an urgent document, or simply wanting to know who to call if something goes wrong: sooner or later, every international traveler is glad to know where their consulate is. This list covers the main consulates and embassies in Barcelona, with address, phone number, official website and opening hours, so you have it on hand from day one of your stay.

Embassy or Consulate, Which One Do You Need?

Most embassies accredited to Spain are based in Madrid, but for day-to-day matters — a lost or stolen passport, an emergency travel document, legal or notarial help — you usually don’t need to go that far. Barcelona hosts consulates general for dozens of countries, many of them within easy reach of La Rambla, and they can handle most of these procedures without a trip to the capital.

What to Do If You Lose Your Passport in Barcelona

Before heading to your consulate, a couple of steps will save you time:

  • File a police report first. If your passport was stolen, go to the nearest Mossos d’Esquadra police station and ask for a copy of the report: most consulates require it to issue an emergency travel document.
  • Book an appointment. Almost no consulate in Barcelona accepts walk-ins, so call or book online before showing up.
  • Bring a copy of your passport. If you saved a photo or photocopy before traveling, the process moves much faster.
  • Contact your travel insurance. Many policies cover the costs and paperwork that come with lost documentation.
