As the temperatures are rising up and up during these days, what we are going to recommend you this week is a tour around Barcelona’s beaches once you finish your cultural daily activities. 😉
As we are a city open to the sea (thanks God), the wide 10 different beaches of the Catalan capital, which extend approximately 5 km of golden sand and smooth waters for bathing, constitute one of the largest areas of leisure available to locals and visitors in Barcelona, as they are accessible, with Wi-Fi and excellent amenities and services.
They are never more than just a few minutes away from any point in the city, since they are easily reached by public transport or by bike.
Equipped with all the necessary facilities and services and opened all year long, they are visited year after year by millions of people, providing a perfect complement to the rest of cultural attractions of Barcelona, offering a quite interesting assortment of activities like strolling one way or another, enjoying the terraces and the restaurants, taking a bath, play beach sports, ride bikes…
Hereby we introduce to you our favorite beaches:
The Barceloneta’s beach is one of the oldest in the city. Located in the traditional fishing district, it was one of the firsts of having amenities for bathing, an activity that was the exclusive domain of the city’s wealthy class at the time. You can arrive easily to the beach if you are visiting the Picasso museum or Santa Maria del Mar church, as it is a 10 minute-walk from la Barceloneta.
Nova Icària’s beach was created while the Olympic Village was being built, in the late 80s, creating an accessible and open city seafront, dominated by the backdrop of a metal fish designed by Frank Gehry.
Mar Bella and Nova Mar Bella beaches are the chosen ones by the youngest public, as it offers an space dedicated to naturism. They are meeting points for an open minded and cosmopolitan public, sport lovers and even students from universities nearby.
In the Fòrum Bathing Area you will find a nice seawater swimming pool, giving you the chance to experience a sea bathing in a different way. With the Forum’s photovoltaic pergola as its backdrop, surrounded by the whole Forum Park and with less people than usual in Barcelona’s beaches, you will be in the perfect scene to immortalize with your camera!
