Following our post of day 1 on what to do in Barcelona in three days to make the most of your time, we continue our tour with an itinerary from the heights of the city that will make you fall in love with Barcelona and you will never forget.
We start the tour by a pleasant stroll from the Hotel to the bottom of Las Ramblas, where you will find the Columbus Monument and the wonderful Port of Barcelona.
We continue with a pleasant walk parallel to the dock towards the Barceloneta district and then turning right along the Passeig de Joan de Borbo, where you will find the OneOcean Port Vell of Barcelona, the luxury port of Barcelona with the most spectacular yachts. At the end of this promenade we will be on the beach of Barceloneta, next to the swimming pools of Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta y Club Natació Barcelona.
From there you can move from the sea to the sky in just a few minutes, traveling with the Port Cable Car which will take you from la Barceloneta to the viewpoint of Miramar in Montjuïc on an exciting journey at 80 meters high which will allow you to see Barcelona from a bird’s eye view.
Once we arrive to the Miramar viewpoint and with the feet on the ground, we will head to the Castle of Montjuïc, a former military fortress located on the top of the mountain on which today many cultural activities and exhibitions take place. The climb is tough, so depending on the energy we recommend you to take the Montjuïc Cable Car or the bus line 150.
On our journey back to the city we will cross from the most beautiful gardens and Olympic venues to some of the most important cultural museums.
First we can open up our Olympic spirit by visiting the main sites of the Barcelona Olympic Games ‘92 as the Palau Sant Jordi and the Olympic Stadium. Also, you can admire the iconic and stylish communications tower designed by Santiago Calatrava and built for the Olympic Games.
If you are a nature lover, you’re in luck. During this tour you will discover not only the hidden corners of this magical mountain, but also an exceptional catalog of parks and theme gardens where it’s worth it getting lost for a while. These include the Botanical Garden or the gardens of Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer and Joan Brossa.
Art and architecture for everyone
You will come across some of the most emblematic monuments and museums of the city. You won’t be able to visit all of them, so you will have to choose.
El Poble Espanyol brings together in one space the reproductions of typical buildings from all regions of Spain. The venue was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1929 and is also an authentic outdoor architectural museum, like a town itself.
The next stop will take you to La Fundació Miró, a beautiful building that houses the permanent collection of works by Miró and a wide range of temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.
Likewise, el Museu Nacional d’Art de Cataluña (MNAC) has one of the largest collections of medieval art in Europe, among them we can highlight the Romanesque murals.
As an ideal plan to end the day, you can contemplate the show of lights, colours and music that offers the Magic Fountain of Montjuic, one of Barcelona’s main tourist attractions and a symbol of the city.
A few meters from there you will find La Plaça d’Espanya, from where you can take the subway or the bus to go back to the city center. As a curiosity, in the same square you can find the old bullring Las Arenas, which maintains its old facade after being converted into a shopping center in 2011.
After a hard day, you may want to regain strength with a nice meal. If you want to enjoy the typical Spanish tapas, surrounded by a great atmosphere and at a good value, we recommend you to let yourself fall into any of the bars in the street Blai, the trendiest area to eat tapas in Barcelona.
