Barcelona has held a Biosphere certificate since 2011, as an urban destination committed to sustainability. The companies located in the Barcelona area can join the Biosphere Barcelona standard for Commitment to Sustainable Tourism.
What is the Barcelona Biosphere Commitment?
The Biosphere Barcelona standard for Commitment to Sustainable Tourism is awarded to tour operators who are committed to responsible and environmentally-friendly management, to culture, to decent working conditions, to gender equity and to social and economic benefits.
It is important, especially under the current situation, to make sustainability a fundamental principle of tourism companies. This commitment is not a static state, but a path of continuous improvement that our Hotel has chosen to advance.
¿Quiénes otorgan la Certificación Biosphere?
The Biosphere Certification is granted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), an independent organization with international presence that has been promoting, for more than 20 years, responsible tourism at an international level, helping all the actors involved in the tourism sector to develop a new way of travelling and getting to know our Planet.
It is an affiliate member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and a founding member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). In addition, it has had a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since its foundation.
What is Biosphere Certification based on?
Biosphere Certification is based on a manual of good practices that meets the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDAs).
