What do I put in my suitcase to travel to Barcelona in autumn?

It is said that there are cities that should be visited at least four times in a lifetime, one for each season. If you plan to come to Barcelona during the autumn months, do not miss the blog of Hotel Arc la Rambla, we tell you what you should put in your suitcase to be prepared for any plan.

Autumn is a time when the weather varies a lot. One day it’s sunny and you can spend the day at the beach, but maybe the next day it’s cold and you have to wrap up warm. Also, it is a season where it tends to rain a lot.

The temperature in autumn varies a lot from one month to another. It reaches maximums of 77.00 ºF (25 ºC) in September and minimums of 53.60 º (12 ºC) in November. Although it is not usually very cold, the most important thing is that the bad weather does not prevent you from sightseeing.

Take a mid-season jacket, a sweater and avoid shorts, so you will be comfortable even if temperatures drop. If it cools down and you want to warm up, you can buy roasted chestnuts in a street stall (but from October onwards, when the Castañada is celebrated).

October is the rainiest month in Barcelona. So that the rain doesn’t catch you unawares, pack an umbrella or a waterproof jacket in your luggage. Don’t worry if you forget it, you can buy one in a souvenir store near the hotel and take it with you as a souvenir.

In Barcelona there is always something to do. In the worst case, you can go to a museum such as the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), the Picasso Museum or the MACBA.

Will I be able to go to the beach? Don’t pack your suitcase as if it were summer. The weather conditions are likely to be good, but be careful: the temperature of the sea water is not the same as in July, so you may not be able to swim.

Our advice is to take a swimsuit just in case and if you need it, from the Hotel we provide you with a bag and towel to go to the beach.

It is clear that your suitcase will depend on how long your stay in Barcelona will last, however, there are certain basics that you should include. Take note:

  1. Comfort: for sightseeing it is essential that you go comfortable, so choose good shoes, light and versatile clothing.
  2. Backpack: carry a small bag or a shoulder bag that allows you to store your personal belongings.
  3. Protect yourself from the sun: it is important to control sun exposure, so take sunscreen and sunglasses.
  4. Documentation and money: check that your passport and identity document is up to date and exchange currency before your trip, if necessary.
  5. Electronic devices: make sure that the cable of your cell phone, camera or computer is compatible with the Spanish electrical grid. We recommend that you bring a power adapter to charge your electronic devices at the hotel.

When we are on vacation we usually leave the hotel first thing in the morning and do not return until the evening. When we get dressed, we must take into account that temperature changes occur during the day.

That is why this garment is a perfect complement for its size and versatility, we can carry it inside our backpack or handbag. It will serve as a coat and also to enter religious buildings.

If you want to visit the Sagrada Familia, the Cathedral of Barcelona or the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar you should cover your shoulders. If it is hot and you are wearing suspenders, you can cover your shoulders with the shawl.

Even if your stay in Barcelona is short, reserve a part of your trip to make a special plan and dress up in your best clothes.  You can enjoy a concert at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, right next to the Hotel; attend a cultural event such as the Magic Nights Casa Batlló; go for dinner at a good restaurant or go out for tapas.

We can all slip up. If you forget to put something in your suitcase, you can always go shopping. If you want to shop in the most exclusive area of the city, you have to go to Paseo de Gracia, an avenue where you can find the best brands.

If you are one of those who prefer to look for bargains in street markets, go to Los Encantes. A market of opportunities where you will find second-hand jewelry. It is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 9 am to 8 pm.

Tallers and Avinyó streets are a good option to find vintage and artisan stores.

If you already have everything, you just need to come to Hotel Arc la Rambla and enjoy your vacations in Barcelona. Also, if the check in or check out time does not coincide with your plans, we have a left-luggage service and you can leave your luggage for longer.
