Barcelona patisseries: have a chocolate with churros!

Chocolate with churros is a typical sweet of the Spanish gastronomy and in Barcelona it has a great tradition. The origin of eating it dates back to the 19th century, when churros, which are slices of golden and salty fried dough, were first eaten for breakfast. However, the origin of this preparation is located in China and was introduced in Spain by street vendors.

At the beginning of the 20th century the combination of churros and chocolate began to become popular and, although the exact moment of such brilliance is unknown, the truth is that it soon became popular to enjoy chocolate with churros as a delicious social act.

On Epiphany, it is traditional in Barcelona to taste chocolate with Roscón de Reyes. From Hotel Arc La Rambla we recommend you to try chocolate with churros in one of the best chocolate shops in Barcelona.

San Román

The churrería San Román was founded in 1969 by the family that named it. It is a place where you can taste the ribbons, traditional churros, chocolate churros, pestiños or porras.

It has two shops in Barcelona: one located in the Eixample and the other in Fabra i Puig, its production is entirely handmade.

La Pallaressa

Granja La Pallaressa was founded in 1947, making it one of the oldest chocolate bars in the city. It is famous for its delicious handmade Swiss chocolate. Its decoration preserves the charm of the bars of the past, the perfect place to protect yourself from the cold after a tour around Ciutat Vella, the place where it is located.

In addition, La Pallaressa is close to Hotel Arc La Rambla, so it is possible to get there on foot. Irresistible, isn’t it?

Granja Dulcinea

This is another of Barcelona’s emblematic chocolate shops. It was founded in 1941 by Juan Mach and Elvira Farràs and today continues the family tradition. In addition to chocolate, at Granja Dulcinea you can taste Catalan cream, rice pudding, apple pie or a delicious waffle.

La Nena Chocolatería

La Nena Chocolatería is also a family place, perfect for snacking with children. Located in the district of Gracia, it is a chocolate shop that offers a wide range of homemade cakes. Its decoration is full of books, paintings and even a playground for children.

A cozy place where you can enjoy a good snack. And if you wish, with a game of chess!

Churrería Trébol

This churrería is located in the Eixample and also offers an exquisite chocolate with churros. One of its attractions is that it is open 24 hours a day, so if you feel like a hot chocolate at night you can have it here.

Comaxurros

Churrería Comaxurros is the most modern of all the list that we suggest, but it maintains the traditional recipe of elaboration of churros, presented with a delicious chocolate a la taza. It is located in the district of Sarrià – Sant Gervasi and one of its most innovative products is the salty churros with cheese and sobrasada.

Café de L’Òpera

We finished our recommendations for Barcelona chocolaterías with the Café de L’Òpera, a cafeteria that was born in 1929 located in the heart of La Rambla. Part of its charm is in the decoration, since it maintains the marble tables and chairs in the style of the first half of the 20th century.

The chocolate with churros from the Café de L’Òpera continues to be made in the traditional way, and if you want to try Swiss chocolate (with cream), you won’t easily forget it.

If you would like more information about Barcelona’s pastry shops and/or chocolate shops, the reception staff at Hotel Arc La Rambla will inform you.
