On Saturday, March 12th, the popular culture takes to the streets and La Rambla del Raval in celebration of the fifth festival of folk culture of Santa Madrona.
Santa Madrona festivals were first held five years ago with the intention of promoting bonding with the figure of Santa Madrona with the district of Raval, the most unknown of patron saints that the city of Barcelona has. The organizations want to highlight Raval identifying the patron saint of Barcelona had with the district. In fact, the portal entrance to the city walls of the Raval, near the shipyards, named after the Portal de Santa Madrona.
From 16:30 there will in the Plaza Gardunya several participant groups: Gat Sírius i tabalers del Poble Sec, La tarasca de Barcelona, L´Arpella del Barri Gòtic, Gegants infantils Pippo i Gal·la, Capgrossos del Raval, Geganters i Grallers de Corbera, Geganters i Grallers de La Garriga…
At 17:30 will be the presentation of the groups participating and showcasing dance and then a parade will travel the streets of the Raval to show the elements of beasts. The route of the parade is as follows: Plaça Gardunya, carrer Carme, La Rambla, carrer Hospital, plaça Pedró, carrer Bisbe Laguarda, carrer Riera Alta, carrer Carme and plaça Joan Amades.
The closing ceremony will take place in the square Joan Amades at 19’15 pm with the performance of the Fènix del Poble Nou, made by the Colla del Drac del Poble Nou.
On the other hand, on Sunday, March 13th, there will be a performance of human towers (A.K.A. Castellers) in Plaça de Santa Madrona with the participation of the Castellers del Poble-Sec, Sabadell and San Cugat.
