The Patron of Catalonia, Saint Mary of Montserrat, is worshipped at the shire in the Monastery, located in a natural park , 60 Km to the west of Barcelona. The mountain and Benedictine monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century, and is one of most popular escapes from Barcelona. The Benedictines community are dedicated to a life of prayer, and culture and besides the monks, we can find the Escolanía, the oldest boys choir in Europe.
If you want to visit Montserrat and The Escolanía, please take note you can attend the choral concert given by the escolans every day at 13.00 ( Sundays at 12.00 ) in the basilica (except some days during the year).
