It is already Christmas time in Barcelona! Last week, the city has been illuminated with Christmas lights. In addition to this, it takes place the oldest event of the city: the Fira Santa Llúcia, which lies in front of the Pla de la Seu (the Cathedral square), to be exactly on Avinguda de la Catedral. The Fira begins in late November or early December and carries on about one month every day from 10.30 to 20.30, with more than 280 stands to sell nativity scenes and figures, greenery and Plants, crafts and simbombes.
The history of Santa Llúcia goes back in 1786. The first who mentioned it was Rafael Amat, a Catalan writer of the 18th century: “13 December, Saint Lucy virgin and martyr. There were festivities in the Cathedral, in the chapel and the altar where the image of the Virgin was venerated; and outside, with the fair opposite, many stands with Nativity scenes, clay and cardboard figurines, images of saints, shepherds, animal (…).”
Nowadays, the sellers offer you all the products you need to decorate your home in Christmas. There are four kinds of stands where you will buy caves, baubles and candles, natural or artificial trees, tiós figures, tambourines or traditional instruments to touch in Christmas, hand-made products, accessories and a lot of others artisanal products.
Our hotel is welcoming you to celebrate the Fira de Santa Llúcia with us, and we wish you to have a nice Christmas in a lovely staying with us too!
